How to Book the Life in the UK Test: Step-by-Step Guide

Everything you need to know about booking your Life in the UK test, from creating an account to choosing a test centre and what to bring on the day.

Before You Book

Before booking your test, make sure you have a valid form of identification. The test centre will need to verify your identity on the day. Accepted forms of ID include a valid passport, a biometric residence permit, or a travel document with a photo.

Step 1: Create an Account

Visit the official Life in the UK test booking website. You will need to create an account with your personal details, including your name exactly as it appears on your ID document.

Step 2: Choose a Test Centre

There are over 30 test centres across the UK. Choose one that is convenient for you. Popular centres in London and other major cities tend to fill up quickly, so book well in advance if you have a preferred location.

Step 3: Select a Date and Time

Tests run throughout the week at most centres. Morning slots tend to be most popular. You can usually find availability within 1 to 2 weeks, though this varies by location.

Step 4: Pay the Fee

The test costs £50. Payment is made online when you book. If you fail and need to retake the test, you will need to pay again.

What to Bring on the Day

Arrive at least 15 minutes early. Bring the same ID document you used when booking. You cannot bring phones, bags, or notes into the test room. Everything you need will be provided at the centre.

After the Test

You will receive your result immediately after finishing. If you pass, you will receive a “Pass Notification Letter” by post within 7 days. You will need this letter for your citizenship or settlement application.
